Every breath you take

The song I chose related with gender violence is “Every breath you take” by the rock band “The Police” from their album Synchronicity, in 1983, exactly, the 20th May. At the 26th Annual Grammy Awards, the song was nominated for three Grammy Awards: Song of the Year, Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals, and Record of the Year. They won the first two categories.

The reason why I chose it is because I used to sing it without knowing the real meaning of the song. A few days ago, when I was searching for songs related with the project, I found a website with a lot of song’s titles talking about gender violence. It surprised me the fact that the song was in that list and when I read the lyrics I realized that the song clearly talks about how he controls the girls as all the time it says “I’ll be watching you”.
