“No Scrubs” is a song by an American R&B, Hip-Hop, Soul and Funk girl band, made up of Tionne “T-Boz”, Rozonda “Chilli” and Lisa “Left Eye”. It was recorded in December 1998 and released in February 1999. I chose this song since it’s one of my favourites from the 90’s and because both the lyrics and the video transmit strength, power and security to me. The song, from the beginning to the end, shows a feminist message, in which they refer to the word "scrub" as a really cocky guy, who can't get anything from their love. Moreover, the TLC sing that they don't want to waste time with boys without any ambition who depend on their mothers, putting ahead of their independence above all, “I’m looking like class and he’s looking like trash, can’t get with a deadbeat ass”. Last but not least, when I listen to this song or when I'm dancing it, I feel really comfortable with myself and I feel that I’m an independent woman, tenacious in everything I do and that no man, nor anything can put his hand in my way.
